Coming Up With A Series Of Abstract Figurative Art

Thu Jun 11, 2009, 11:41 AM
Every time I sit in front of a canvas an idea forms in my head. Sometimes it's in the form of colours or shapes, usually abstract. I turn to my tubes of paint and choose the colours as they appear to me in my mind. When the mood strikes and the painting turns into a figurative piece I find myself these past few months doing the same lonely figure. Sometimes standing on a cliff like structure, always with a dripping moon and no features on her face.
For me they represent the feeling of sometimes losing that unique part of yourself were everything seemed possible and our dreams were within reach. As the years go by that person, that dreamer seems more and more like a stranger. When I find myself painting featureless faces it's as if I am still seeking to find my voice. I think I might be searching for the dreamer I used to be.

  • Listening to: the dog breathing
  • Reading: Sarah's Key by Tatiana De Rosnay
  • Watching: the sun shine through the window (finally!)
  • Eating: icecream
  • Drinking: water

I have been selling my original art online since October of 2008. My art took a side line for eleven years, now I am back in it full force. After studying art in my early 20's I went on to sell it at a custom picture framing store and gallery. I was the owner/operator for eleven years but when my family expanded to six children, four of my own and two step children, I decided to concentrate on my own art and spend my time at home. Years of running a successful brick and mortar business with at least one to two children running around the store with me has helped shape my multi tasking talents! I started that business when I was only 24 and made it a success, now I am putting that same ambition into shaping myself as a professional self represented artist. While I do have a few paintings showing in a gallery I find it more viable to try and find my niche online while surrounding myself with my family.
